A late-night explosion in central Moscow has claimed the life of a traffic police officer and left two others wounded after a suspect detonated an explosive device beside a patrol car near Savyolovsky railway station minutes after midnight, authorities confirmed. The attacker also died at the scene and investigators are probing the incident.


Suspect Detonates Explosive Beside Patrol Vehicle

According to the Russian Interior Ministry, an unidentified man approached traffic police officers who were on duty in their patrol vehicle at Savyolovsky Station Square before an explosive device was triggered, killing the officer instantly. Two other traffic police personnel were seriously injured in the blast and rushed to hospital for treatment.


Attacker Dead, Identity and Motive Under Investigation

Law enforcement agencies reported that the suspect died in the blast at the site of the attack. Surveillance footage and forensic analysis are being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation into the explosion. Officials have not yet released details on the identity of the assailant or a possible motive.


Criminal Case Opened as Officials Survey Scene

Russia’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case into the incident, with charges expected to include assault on law enforcement officers and unlawful possession of explosive materials. Investigators are conducting forensic examinations and reviewing security camera recordings to build a clearer picture of what happened.
