Body Found During Inspection of Vacant Store
A maintenance worker inspecting a vacant grocery store in Cobb County, Georgia, made a shocking discovery after finding the body of a 43-year-old man inside the abandoned building. The worker had reportedly entered the property to investigate a possible water leak when the remains were located.
Police were called to the former supermarket on Cobb Parkway SE during the morning hours. The building had been closed and unused since 2024, according to authorities. Investigators later identified the deceased man as James Connell.
Suspect Arrested on Felony Charge
Following an investigation, police arrested 34-year-old Micah Deangelo Garner. He has been charged with concealing the death of another person, a felony offense under Georgia law.
Investigators allege that the victim’s body had been hidden, delaying its discovery for more than a week and potentially affecting the investigation. Garner is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Jail. He also faces separate misdemeanor charges, including loitering and providing false information to law enforcement officers.
At this stage, no homicide charges have been filed in connection with Connell’s death.
Investigation Continues as Family Seeks Answers
Authorities have not publicly released the cause of death, but investigators have indicated that foul play is suspected. The case remains under active investigation as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding Connell’s death.
Connell’s family released a statement expressing their grief and describing him as a caring, generous, and compassionate individual who touched many lives. Family members have urged anyone with information related to the case to contact local investigators.
Law enforcement officials continue to gather evidence and have not announced whether additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
