Tragic Discovery at Santa Monica Residence
Authorities responded late Monday night to a 911 call reporting an assault at a home on Delaware Avenue in Santa Monica. Upon arrival, police discovered 71-year-old opera singer and vocalist Jubilant Sykes suffering from severe stab wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Inside the home, officers found Sykes’ 31-year-old son, Micah Sykes, who was calmly taken into custody without incident. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

Jubilant Sykes had a long and distinguished career as a baritone, gaining worldwide acclaim for his performances. He earned a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Classical Album in 2010 for his role in Leonard Bernstein’s Mass.
