Armed Civilian’s Quick Response Helped Limit Casualties in Idaho Shooting

New details have emerged about the deadly mass shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, where officials say the swift actions of an armed civilian and an off-duty law enforcement officer likely prevented an even greater tragedy.

The incident left three people dead and seven others injured after a 24-year-old gunman opened fire at the busy restaurant. Authorities confirmed the suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators believe the attacker acted alone, and the motive remains under investigation.

Healthcare Worker Acted After Hearing Gunfire

The armed civilian has been identified as 35-year-old Jordan Salinas, a healthcare worker who was eating lunch nearby when the shooting began.

According to Salinas, he immediately recognized the sound of gunfire and responded using firearm training he had received following a 2021 mass shooting in Boise. Carrying a legally owned suppressed semi-automatic pistol, he confronted the shooter and exchanged gunfire, helping force the attacker away from crowded areas.

Police said Salinas’ actions, combined with those of an off-duty state officer who also engaged the suspect, likely prevented additional deaths and injuries.

Investigation Continues as Community Mourns

The shooting happened shortly after the recently opened In-N-Out restaurant became crowded with customers. Among those killed was an employee of the restaurant, while several victims remain hospitalized with serious injuries.

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, continue gathering witness statements and reviewing evidence. Authorities have urged anyone with photos or videos from the scene to assist the investigation.

The tragic attack has once again renewed discussions across the United States about public safety, emergency preparedness, and responses to active shooter incidents.
