Iran Focuses on Oman Talks as US Negotiations Remain Off the Table
Iran has confirmed that it is actively negotiating with Oman to establish a temporary commercial shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, while firmly denying reports that it has resumed talks with the United States.
The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, where the strategic waterway remains at the center of international attention due to its importance for global oil shipments and maritime trade. Iranian officials said the discussions with Oman are intended to improve safe navigation and create a practical mechanism for commercial vessels passing through the strait.
Temporary Shipping Corridor Under Discussion
According to Iranian officials, the negotiations with Oman have been underway for more than a week and focus on creating a secure two-way shipping corridor. The proposal is designed to support maritime traffic while addressing regional security concerns.
Officials also indicated that broader discussions could include future cooperation on managing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. However, Tehran continues to oppose proposals that would equally divide shipping control between Iran and Oman or involve outside parties in activities such as mine clearance.
