Son Helps Stop Violent Domestic Attack After Ex Breaks Into Apartment
A New York man has been found guilty on multiple felony charges after a violent attack on his former girlfriend that left her with life-changing injuries. Authorities said the woman’s young son stepped in during the assault, using a hammer to protect his mother and force the attacker to flee.
The incident, which prosecutors described as an act of domestic violence, ended with the suspect’s conviction on several serious charges. He could now face decades behind bars when he is sentenced.
Attack Followed Party Encounter
According to prosecutors, the 33-year-old defendant encountered his former girlfriend at a party in New York City in June 2025, where she was accompanied by another man. Investigators said he later followed her to her apartment building in Mount Vernon.
After reaching the residence, he allegedly forced his way inside by kicking down the apartment door. Officials said the woman attempted to escape into another room, but the attacker broke through the door and used a kitchen knife to slash the right side of her face before stabbing her in the shoulder.
The victim suffered severe injuries, including a fractured cheekbone, a torn neck ligament, and facial wounds requiring 25 stitches. Prosecutors said the attack occurred months after the relationship had ended.
Son’s Quick Response Forces Suspect to Escape
During the violent assault, the woman’s son grabbed a hammer and struck the attacker while trying to protect his mother. Authorities said the unexpected intervention caused the suspect to flee the apartment before police arrived.
The victim later testified that she had ended the relationship after ongoing problems and had asked the man to leave her home months before the attack.
Conviction Brings Case Closer to Justice
A jury convicted the defendant of multiple felony offenses, including first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
He is scheduled to be sentenced in July and could receive a prison sentence of up to 25 years under New York law.
The case has once again highlighted the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of seeking help when relationships become abusive.
