Florida Grandmother Faces Charges Following Park Confrontation
A 64-year-old Florida woman has been arrested after police accused her of helping confine five children inside a public park restroom during a confrontation linked to an ongoing dispute involving her granddaughter.
According to investigators, the incident took place at a park in Palm Coast after tensions between a group of teenagers escalated over several days. Authorities say the disagreement began when a teenage girl became involved in a conflict with other juveniles, leading to threats and arguments both in person and through social media.
Police allege that the situation intensified when the group arranged to meet at the park the following day.
Children Reportedly Trapped Inside Restroom
Investigators say five children ran into a public restroom for safety after a group of adults and juveniles arrived at the park. The children reportedly locked themselves inside while members of the group attempted to reach them.
Authorities claim the grandmother approached the restroom with a pit bull and allegedly pushed against the restroom door while others tried to force it open. The children remained inside for several minutes and called for help before the group eventually left the area.
Law enforcement officials stated that the children were able to leave the restroom unharmed once the confrontation ended.
Teen Granddaughter Also Facing Charges
During the investigation, authorities discovered that personal belongings left behind by the children, including a cellphone and clothing, had allegedly been taken and later discarded.
The teenage granddaughter was subsequently arrested on multiple charges, including theft-related offenses and making threats. She was taken into juvenile custody following the incident.
Meanwhile, the grandmother was charged with false imprisonment in connection with the alleged confinement of the children. Officials confirmed that she was later released on bond.
Authorities Urge Parents to Monitor Children’s Activities
Following the arrests, local law enforcement officials encouraged parents and guardians to remain involved in their children’s activities, especially during school breaks when young people have more free time.
The case remains under investigation as authorities continue reviewing evidence related to the confrontation.
