A tragic incident near the University of Washington campus has left students and residents shaken after a 19-year-old student was found fatally stabbed inside an off-campus apartment complex in Seattle.
Authorities said the attack happened late Sunday night at Nordheim Court, a student housing community connected to the university. Emergency crews responded after reports of a stabbing but were unable to save the victim.
Police have launched a homicide investigation and are actively searching for the suspect, who remains at large.
Student Found in Laundry Room at Housing Complex
According to investigators, officers arrived at the apartment complex shortly after 10 p.m. following reports of a violent assault. The victim was discovered inside a laundry room in one of the residential buildings.
First responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the student was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Officials have not publicly released the victim’s identity pending notification of family members.
The student is believed to have been enrolled at the University of Washington, and officials stated the incident occurred at Nordheim Court, a housing facility commonly used by students.
Police Search for Armed and Dangerous Suspect
Seattle police said the suspect is described as a Black male with a beard, estimated to be between 25 and 30 years old. Authorities reported he was last seen wearing blue jeans, a vest, and a button-up shirt.
Investigators warned the public that the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Officers searched the surrounding area overnight while residents were temporarily instructed to remain indoors and lock their doors and windows.
The motive behind the fatal stabbing has not yet been determined, and police have not confirmed whether the victim knew the attacker.
University Community Reacts to Tragedy
University officials described the killing as deeply distressing and extended condolences to the victim’s family and friends. Counseling and support services have been made available for students affected by the incident.
The case has also raised concerns among students regarding safety at off-campus housing complexes. Investigators continue to gather evidence and are urging anyone with information to contact authorities.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to officially identify the victim in the coming days as the homicide investigation remains ongoing.
