Florida Student Taken Into Custody Over Restroom Message
An 11-year-old girl was arrested by deputies in Flagler County, Florida, after a threatening message about a school shooting was discovered written on a bathroom wall at an area middle school, law enforcement officials reported. The message, which allegedly referenced a shooting planned for a specific date, prompted immediate concern from school staff and police.
Deputies were alerted by school administrators on February 3, who noticed the alarming comment in a restroom at Indian Trails Middle School. The content of the message raised significant safety concerns, triggering a rapid response from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) and campus safety personnel.
Authorities Investigate Threat and Arrest Minor
According to law enforcement, the young suspect claimed she wrote the message after an online acquaintance dared her to do so and said she did not believe it would lead to serious consequences. Deputies described the act as extremely serious and emphasized that threats of violence — even when allegedly made in jest — are treated with utmost seriousness by both school officials and police.
The girl was taken into custody and initially held at a juvenile detention facility before later transfer to the Department of Juvenile Justice. Due to her age, the case is sealed under juvenile court rules, and details about her legal representation and current status are being withheld.
School leaders and the sheriff’s office stressed that maintaining safety on campus remains their top priority, noting the importance of swift reporting and investigation of any potential threats.
Community and School Safety Measures Highlighted
In the wake of the incident, Flagler County schools reiterated safety protocols and the crucial role school resource officers play in protecting students and staff. Officials emphasized that every threat — whether written, verbal, or online — is taken seriously and investigated thoroughly to prevent harm.
With incidents involving written threats at schools gaining attention, this case underscores growing concerns about student safety and the impacts of online interactions on youth behavior.
