Massive Cannabis Haul Uncovered in Central Serbia

Serbian law enforcement carried out a large-scale raid on a property near the town of Kruševac, uncovering nearly five tons of marijuana – the biggest drug seizure ever recorded in the nation. The operation also led to the confiscation of multiple assault rifles and a military-grade rocket launcher, highlighting the severity of the criminal activity involved.

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić described the find as a “record catch,” underscoring Serbia’s intensified push against illegal drug production and trafficking as the country continues to tighten law enforcement.

🚔 Raid Details: Weapons and Suspects

During the raid on the rural facility in the village of Konjuh, officers arrested at least two individuals connected to the operation, while another suspect remains at large. In addition to the massive cannabis haul, authorities found four automatic assault rifles and an anti-tank rocket launcher, suggesting that those involved were well-armed and potentially linked to organized criminal networks.

Law enforcement agents also discovered equipment used for packaging the narcotics, further indicating that the location may have been a hub for distribution both within Serbia and possibly for export.

🇪🇺 Broader Impact: Tackling Crime and Trafficking

Cannabis remains illegal in Serbia, though there is some public debate about legalizing it for medicinal use. The Interior Ministry has stated that investigators will work to trace the origin and intended distribution of the seized drugs.

With Serbia pursuing closer ties with the European Union, authorities have stepped up efforts to dismantle major drug operations and organized crime groups in recent years. The scale of this seizure – far exceeding typical annual confiscations – signals a strong commitment to combating the underground drug market.
