The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested alleged gangster Nitish Kaushal, also known as Lala, in Vermont near the US-Canada border. The arrest came just days after the agency added him to its Most Wanted list as part of an ongoing crackdown on international organised crime.
According to US authorities, Kaushal is an Indian national accused of being associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria organised crime group, which investigators allege operates across multiple countries, including the United States. Officials described the arrest as a significant step in efforts to dismantle transnational criminal networks.
Allegations Include Violent Crimes and Criminal Conspiracy
Federal investigators claim Kaushal was involved in violent criminal activities carried out on behalf of the organised crime syndicate. The allegations include participation in kidnappings, assaults, and other criminal acts linked to the group’s operations.
A federal arrest warrant had been issued by the US District Court for the Central District of California after Kaushal was charged with conspiracy under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Before his arrest, the FBI had warned that he should be considered armed, dangerous, and a potential flight risk.
Arrest Near US-Canada Border
The FBI confirmed that Kaushal was taken into custody in Vermont with assistance from the US Border Patrol. Authorities have not disclosed whether he was attempting to cross into Canada or provided additional operational details regarding the arrest.
The detention follows intensified enforcement efforts targeting criminal organisations with alleged links to India. US investigators have been pursuing members of multiple organised crime groups accused of involvement in offences such as murder, extortion, drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, money laundering, and human smuggling.
Broader Investigation Continues
US law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the alleged international network connected to the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria organisation. Officials have indicated that coordinated operations involving multiple agencies are ongoing as they seek to identify and apprehend additional suspects believed to be linked to the syndicate.
