Tragedy on New Year’s Morning

A tragic hit-and-run crash in Chicago on New Year’s Day claimed the life of Suzanna “Suzy” Marie Garcia, 38, a devoted mother of three children. Emergency crews found her with critical injuries in the passenger seat of a gray SUV that had crashed into a pole in the early hours of Jan. 1. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, she did not survive. The driver fled the scene on foot, leaving Garcia behind.

Family Seeks Answers as Investigation Continues

According to police, the crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. near East 95th Street and the Calumet River on Chicago’s East Side. Officers say the SUV struck a fixed object, and its driver exited the vehicle before first responders arrived. Investigators are still working to identify and locate the person responsible, and no arrests have been made. Garcia’s family is urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring accountability.

Remembering a Beloved Mother and Community Member

Garcia is remembered by loved ones as a caring and devoted mom who was deeply loved by her children, family, and friends. In the aftermath of her death, relatives expressed heartbreak and frustration, stressing that she might have survived if the driver had stayed to render aid or call for help. A fundraiser has been launched to support her family during this difficult time and honor her memory.
