Brave Boy Escapes Danger, Alerts Authorities

MEDFORD, NY — A Long Island seventh grader is being praised for his composure and fast action after an alleged burglary unfolded at his family home while he was alone Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 12:50 p.m. on Dec. 23, just days before Christmas, when the boy heard the sound of breaking glass and footsteps inside the house.

Fearing for his safety, the 12-year-old quickly climbed out his bedroom window and took cover outside, where he immediately dialed 911 to alert law enforcement.

Within minutes, officers from the Suffolk County Police Department arrived at the scene and located the suspect still inside the residence.

Officers Arrest Alleged Intruder on Scene

Police identified the man as 53-year-old Christian Garcia, who was found inside the home when officers arrived. Authorities allege that Garcia gained entry by breaking a kitchen window, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Garcia now faces charges including third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools, and local prosecutors are pursuing the case as it moves forward.

Family, Neighbors Praise Boy’s Courage

Despite the frightening situation, the young boy was not injured and is being hailed as a steady thinker by family members. His grandmother described him as the household’s “little hero,” noting how well he reacted under pressure.

Neighbors also commended his instincts, emphasizing that he did the right thing by escaping danger first and immediately calling authorities, rather than confronting the intruder.
