Early-Morning Shooting Shocks SOMA Neighborhood

In the early hours of Sunday, officers patrolling the South-of-Market (SOMA) area discovered a man lying on the street near 6th and Natoma streets. The victim had sustained gunshot wounds, and despite immediate medical aid from police and paramedics, was pronounced dead at the scene. The unexpected violence has shaken the usually busy district.

Suspect Identified and Apprehended Without Incident

Following a preliminary investigation, detectives from the city’s drug-market coordination unit located a 48-year-old man matching the suspect’s description near Market and Jones streets. The individual was detained without incident and identified as a suspect in the fatal shooting. He has since been booked on suspicion of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm, and is currently held in the county jail.

Investigation Ongoing — Police Seek Public Help

Authorities emphasized that while an arrest has been made, the homicide investigation remains active. They have called on anyone with relevant information — including potential witnesses or those with video evidence from the area — to contact the department’s tip line. Officials hope community cooperation will help shed light on the motive and circumstances of the crime.
