Grammy-nominated rapper Rod Wave arrested on weapon and drug charges in Atlanta rod wave 1800 x 1200 picture

Rising hip-hop star Rod Wave — whose real name is Rodarius Green — was arrested on November 7, 2025 in Fulton County, Georgia on multiple counts of weapon possession, controlled substance offences and reckless driving. The arrest came on the same day he received his first ever Grammy nomination, marking a sharp contrast between a career milestone and legal trouble. He was released on an $8,000 bond the following day, while his legal team has vowed to challenge what they describe as an unlawful stop and detention.

Charges & Timing Collision

According to public records, Green — aged 27 — was detained by law enforcement after a traffic stop near Atlanta, where officers allege they discovered a firearm or knife and controlled substances classified under Schedule II and Schedule V. He was also cited for reckless driving.
The arrest occurred hours after his first nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media for his track “Sinners.” That timing has raised questions about the coincidence of celebration and confinement.
His legal team issued a statement claiming that the arresting officer belonged to a controversial Atlanta unit accused of aggressive, quota-driven enforcement practices — labeling the stop a targeted profiling scenario rather than a legitimate investigation.

Career Momentum vs Legal Headwinds

Rod Wave has enjoyed significant commercial success in recent years, with chart-topping albums and crossover hits that blend hip-hop and soul. Yet, the latest incident adds to a growing list of legal entanglements: earlier this year he faced multiple charges in Georgia, including assault and firearm-related offences, which his attorneys strongly contested.
Now, as the artist prepares to promote his new work and tour, the timing of the arrest could pose reputational risks as well as logistical hurdles in his career trajectory.

What’s Next

Green’s attorneys say they will vigorously contest the charges, arguing violations of his civil rights and an unlawful arrest process. He remains released on bond while the case proceeds in Fulton County. Meanwhile, the nomination for his work on the film soundtrack remains intact, though his legal situation could overshadow the recognition.
Fans and industry observers will be watching closely to see whether the legal outcome hampers upcoming tour plans and releases or becomes a turning point in his public image.
