A Florida man who had recently lost his job has been taken into custody after allegedly threatening to commit violent attacks against a local church online. The 32-year-old was arrested following tips to law enforcement that he posted videos implying planned acts of violence and referencing a staggering “genocide”-style event.
Job loss triggers alarming online threats
According to law-enforcement records, the individual posted a video stating: “I got fired and I’m fired up,” shortly after being dismissed from his employment. He then shot a video miming a rifle while declaring “It’s all kill shot,” signalling intent to target others rather than himself. Investigators say he uploaded a second post in which he declared “it’s gonna look like a genocide.” The postings also referenced a nearby place of worship, which he claimed was “on my list to hit also.” He reportedly lives just around 1.5 miles from the church.
Church involvement and internal alert
Employees at the church became concerned after the man reportedly signed up for a church “Journey” event and was seen frequenting the premises. They alerted local police to his presence and online behaviour. Officials subsequently tracked the posts and identified the suspect, who was held on a substantial bond. He faces charges tied to written threats to kill or seriously injure individuals, as laid out in the arrest affidavit.
Legal response and public safety implications
The local sheriff’s office took the matter seriously, detaining the suspect and setting bond at $250,000. The investigation highlights the rising concern over threats made via social media and the way private disputes — such as losing a job — can escalate into public safety dangers. Authorities emphasise the importance of community-reporting and prompt reactions when disturbing online postings appear.
