A terrifying family violence incident in Washington, D.C. ended with a young child safe but his family forever changed. Authorities discovered a 3-year-old boy alive hours after an alleged domestic shooting in which the child’s mother was killed and his older sister injured. The boy’s father, who fled the scene with the toddler, was later found dead in a separate location.
Fatal Shooting in Northwest Washington
Police were called to a residence in Northwest D.C. on the afternoon of February 11, 2026, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found 34-year-old Rayven Amuan Edwards with a fatal gunshot wound. A 10-year-old girl, believed to be Edwards’ daughter, had also been shot but sustained injuries that were not life threatening. Investigators quickly identified 35-year-old Stephon Marquis Jeter as the suspect; he was reported to have had a domestic relationship with Edwards.
Abduction, AMBER Alert and Manhunt
Authorities believed Jeter took his 3-year-old son, identified as Million, after the shooting. An AMBER Alert was issued and a search launched across the region. Law enforcement tracked Jeter into Prince George’s County, Maryland, where a pursuit ended in a crash. Officers found Jeter inside the vehicle with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The missing child was not in the vehicle.
Boy Located Safe, Investigation Ongoing
Later the same day, police confirmed that the 3-year-old boy was found safely at a relative’s home in Prince George’s County. He was unharmed and reunited with family members. Authorities described the incident as a tragic outcome of domestic conflict and said the investigation is ongoing to learn more about the circumstances and any potential warning signs.
