2 Asheville theft suspects with long criminal histories taken into custody, police say

Two men wanted in Asheville on theft-related cases are now in custody, according to an update shared Monday, Nov. 3, 2025. Police identified the suspects as Brannan Stephen Nitchman, 33, and Jesse Nathaniel Herila, 40.

Who was arrested and when

  • Herila was taken into custody by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 9, with two open warrants for felony larceny, police said.
  • Nitchman was taken into custody on Nov. 2 with two open warrants for larceny and second-degree trespass tied to a south Asheville business incident.

Detention & bond information

Police said Herila is being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility on a $56,600 secured bond (or $5,660 through a bondsman). Nitchman is being held without bond.

Background: lengthy records

The pair were first named as suspects by Asheville police in August 2025. At that time, investigators noted extensive histories:

  • Nitchman: 28 arrests and 64 warrants since 2008.
  • Herila: 16 arrests and 25 warrants since 2005.
