A sentencing hearing has commenced for 18-year-old Brianna Warner, who was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Toronto rapper Jai Parker‑Ford. The family of the victim delivered heartfelt statements about his life and the devastating loss as the court prepares to determine Warner’s sentence.

Victim’s Family Speaks of Loss

In court, Parker-Ford’s family described the vibrant life he led—his deep commitment to his loved ones and his passion for music in the studio. His mother recounted how Parker-Ford’s youngest sibling, at just two-and-a-half years old, had drawn a picture with the words “I miss Jai. I want Jai to come back alive,” a stark and heartbreaking reminder of the loss.

The Fatal Shooting and Evidence Timeline

Parker-Ford was shot late on December 16, 2022, outside his apartment building on Lawrence Avenue East near Orton Park Road. He was struck in the head and died two days later in hospital. Evidence presented at trial revealed cellphone records linking Parker-Ford and Warner during the hours preceding the shooting.

Sentencing Hearing Underway

As the justice system moves to impose a sentence, the court heard a poignant summary from Justice Al O’Marra: “None of the statements is more poignant than the simple drawing provided by the family member, a child, a wish that will never be filled.” With the mandatory life sentence for first-degree murder looming, attention now turns to when Warner will be eligible for parole.
