Tragic Discovery in Rising Sun Home
A 24-year-old Maryland woman has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of her 5-week-old daughter after emergency responders found the infant unresponsive inside a townhouse in Rising Sun earlier this month. Police and medical personnel pronounced the baby deceased at the scene, and subsequent investigation led to charges of first-degree murder and child abuse.
Investigation Reveals Conflicting Evidence
Authorities say the suspect told investigators that her daughter was fine when they went to sleep and later found the infant wedged between couch cushions. However, autopsy results showed traumatic injuries inconsistent with that explanation, including bleeding on the brain and bruising that suggested significant force.
During the probe, police obtained search warrants for the woman’s phone and residences. Investigators reportedly reviewed multiple videos recorded the night before the baby’s death showing the mother consuming alcohol and struggling to manage basic tasks, casting doubt on her account of events.
Charges and Next Court Date
The woman was taken into custody without incident and is being held without bond at the local detention center. She now faces first-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death, with her next court appearance scheduled for early January.
