A North Dakota couple has been arrested after investigators uncovered a disturbing case involving the suspected remains of an infant believed to have died about three years ago. Police say the child’s death was never reported to authorities, and investigators later located a plastic tote at the couple’s Minot residence that reportedly matched a description of a container holding the infant’s remains.
Craig Kerzmann, 49, and Sarah Kerzmann, 45, are facing felony charges as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Police Investigation Began With Domestic Violence Call
The investigation began on Saturday, Aug. 22, when Minot police responded to a reported domestic violence incident at the couple’s residence in southeast Minot.
During the investigation, officers received information about a deceased infant believed to be the child of Craig and Sarah Kerzmann. Investigators were told the baby had died in another state roughly three years earlier and that the death had not been reported to law enforcement.
Police were also informed that the infant’s remains were believed to have been placed inside a tote containing concrete. Officers subsequently located a tote at the residence that was consistent with the information they had received.
The container was taken to the North Dakota State Forensic Examiner’s Office in Bismarck for further forensic examination.
Couple Faces Multiple Felony Charges
Both Craig and Sarah Kerzmann have been charged with failure to report the corpse of a child and disturbing a human burial site, according to court records.
Craig Kerzmann is also facing a separate felony charge related to domestic violence resulting in serious bodily injury.
Authorities have not initially disclosed the circumstances or cause of the infant’s death. Investigators are working with law enforcement officials in Texas as they attempt to establish what happened and determine the full timeline of the case.
The investigation remains active, and additional details could emerge as forensic testing and the interstate investigation continue.
