Farmington Hills Grandmother Killed in Alleged Domestic Violence Incident
A 34-year-old Michigan man is facing serious criminal charges after authorities accused him of fatally attacking his 78-year-old grandmother inside the home they shared in Farmington Hills.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on the morning of June 30 when police responded to reports of a violent domestic assault. Officers found the elderly woman unconscious with severe injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died despite emergency medical treatment.
The suspect was taken into custody after reportedly barricading himself inside a room of the residence before officers safely arrested him.
Murder and Firearm Charges Filed
Prosecutors have charged the man with first-degree murder and felony firearm in connection with the killing. Court records state that the victim suffered both a gunshot wound and significant blunt-force injuries.
During his initial court appearance, a judge entered a not guilty plea on the defendant’s behalf. The court also denied bond, meaning he will remain in custody while the case proceeds.
If convicted of first-degree murder, the accused could receive a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The felony firearm charge carries an additional mandatory prison term.
Another Family Member Was Inside the Home
Authorities confirmed that another grandson was present inside the residence during the incident but was not physically harmed.
Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack as the criminal case moves through the Michigan court system. A probable cause conference has been scheduled for later this month, where prosecutors are expected to present additional evidence.
Officials described the case as a tragic act of domestic violence involving members of the same family.
