US Cracks Down on Illegal World Cup Streaming Network

The U.S. Department of Justice has seized nearly 400 internet domains accused of illegally broadcasting live FIFA World Cup matches without authorization. The large-scale enforcement action aims to disrupt online piracy networks that profit from copyrighted sports content while protecting broadcasters and fans during one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

Officials said the websites provided unauthorized live streams of World Cup matches, violating U.S. copyright laws. The operation was carried out with support from law enforcement agencies and major broadcasting partners that hold official rights to air the tournament.

International Operation Targets Global Piracy Infrastructure

According to investigators, many of the websites relied on servers and digital infrastructure located outside the United States. Authorities identified servers and domains connected to the illegal streaming operation in countries including Peru and Bulgaria, while additional enforcement efforts affected networks linked to Croatia, Romania, Poland, and Colombia.

The coordinated action is designed to interrupt international piracy operations that generate revenue by distributing live sports broadcasts without permission from copyright holders.

Officials Warn of Cybersecurity Risks

Beyond copyright violations, officials warned that illegal streaming websites can expose users to cybersecurity threats. Visitors to unauthorized streaming platforms may face risks such as malware infections, phishing attacks, identity theft, and financial fraud.

Law enforcement agencies encouraged football fans to watch FIFA World Cup matches only through licensed broadcasters and authorized streaming platforms to ensure both legal access and better online security.

Authorities also stated that they will continue investigating organizations involved in digital piracy and pursue additional enforcement actions against websites that illegally distribute copyrighted sporting events.
