Sri Lanka’s Bribery Commission Arrests Yoshitha Rajapaksa
Sri Lanka’s anti-corruption authorities have taken Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, into custody as part of an investigation involving his recruitment into the Sri Lankan Navy.
Officials said the arrest was carried out by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC). Following his detention, Rajapaksa was presented before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, where he was subsequently released on bail.
Investigation Focuses on 2006 Navy Appointment
According to investigators, the inquiry centers on claims that Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s admission into the navy in 2006 may not have followed the standard procedures required for military recruitment.
Authorities have been examining whether proper protocols were bypassed during the process. The investigation forms part of broader efforts to address alleged misconduct and ensure accountability within public institutions.
Anti-Corruption Drive Continues in Sri Lanka
The case comes amid ongoing attempts by Sri Lankan authorities to strengthen anti-corruption measures. The current administration has intensified investigations involving several high-profile political figures and former officials.
Legal proceedings related to the allegations are expected to continue as investigators gather further evidence.
Court Grants Bail After Hearing
After being questioned and formally arrested, Yoshitha Rajapaksa appeared before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court. The court later granted him bail while the investigation remains active.
The development marks another significant case involving members of the influential Rajapaksa family, which has played a major role in Sri Lankan politics for decades.
