Arizona Shooting Leaves Pregnant Teen and Unborn Baby Dead
Police in Arizona have arrested an 18-year-old man accused of killing his pregnant teenage girlfriend and injuring two of her friends during a shooting outside a home in Buckeye.
Authorities said officers responded to reports of gunfire on Elwood Street on the evening of May 14. When police arrived, they found three female victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
The 16-year-old victim, identified as Rylee Montgomery, died at the scene along with her unborn child. Two other women — a 17-year-old pregnant girl and a 22-year-old woman — were transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Investigators later identified the suspect as Michael Sanchez, who was reportedly in a relationship with the victim before the incident. He was taken into custody in Avondale with help from law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Marshals.
Police Say Suspect Faces Multiple Felony Charges
According to investigators, Sanchez is facing several felony charges linked to the deadly shooting. Officials said two men were seen fleeing the area before officers arrived, though police have not yet released full details about possible additional suspects or involvement.
The injured 17-year-old victim reportedly underwent an emergency premature delivery while receiving treatment in the hospital. Medical staff continue to monitor both the mother and newborn child.
Police have not yet shared a possible motive, but the investigation remains active.
Family Claims Teen Faced Threats Before Fatal Attack
Family members of the victim allege there had been ongoing threats and abusive behavior before the shooting occurred. Relatives claimed the suspect had previously threatened the teen after their breakup and allegedly became increasingly aggressive during the relationship.
According to family statements, concerns about threatening behavior had reportedly been shared with authorities before the deadly incident.
Community members have since expressed grief and support for the victims as investigators continue gathering evidence in the case.
