Kyiv, Ukraine — Ukraine’s Determined Stand on War Anniversary
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used a solemn anniversary address on Tuesday to reaffirm Kyiv’s commitment to defending its sovereignty as the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion passed. In a powerful recorded message, Zelensky said Russian President Vladimir Putin has failed to break Ukraine’s resolve and urged former U.S. President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine to witness the conflict’s true toll.
Appeal to Western Leaders and Trump
In his address, Zelensky stressed that Putin “has not achieved his goals” and that Ukraine continues to stand firm despite immense hardship. He invited Trump to come to Kyiv as a symbolic way to see firsthand the devastation and courage of the Ukrainian people, saying such a visit could clarify which side is defending democracy.
European leaders from countries including the UK, Germany and the EU Commission joined the anniversary events in Kyiv, expressing unified support for Ukraine’s independence. However, disagreements among allies continue, with some nations debating further sanctions and military aid.
Rejection of Territorial Concessions and Reaffirmed Resolve
Zelensky reiterated that Ukraine will not negotiate away territory, especially in the Donbas region, and rejected any peace plan that compromises national integrity. He also honored fallen soldiers and civilians, highlighting the heavy toll the war has taken on Ukrainian communities.
While Russia reiterated its determination to press its military campaign, Kyiv emphasized that widespread international backing remains crucial. Western officials touring Kyiv’s damaged infrastructure underscored persistent solidarity, even as geopolitical tensions and war fatigue challenge global support.
