Texas Dentist Faces Charges After Alleged Intoxicated Procedure

A pediatric dentist in Sherman, North Texas, was taken into custody Monday and charged with a felony for allegedly providing dental care while showing signs of intoxication. The arrest followed concerns raised by a dental assistant during a procedure on an 8-year-old patient, leading to a 911 call and a police response at the clinic.

Sherman police say officers observed indications of impairment and administered a field sobriety test before arresting the 36-year-old dentist on suspicion of performing surgery while intoxicated — a state jail felony under Texas law.

🦷 Procedure Halted After Staff Spot Concerning Behavior

According to police documents, the dentist was in the middle of performing a filling and crown on a young patient when a dental technician noticed behavior that raised alarm. The assistant halted the treatment, and the child’s father reportedly placed the call to emergency services.

Officers who arrived at Pediatric Dentistry of Sherman say they observed signs of impairment and subsequently arrested the dentist. Prior to the incident, she had treated at least one other patient earlier that day.

⚖️ Legal Status and Defense Response

The dentist, licensed in Texas since 2016 with no prior public disciplinary actions, was booked into the Grayson County Jail and later released on a $10,000 bond. If convicted of the felony charge, she could face up to two years in prison.

In a statement, her attorney denied that she was under the influence, indicating pending blood test results will show no alcohol or drugs in her system. The dentist also said she offered to take a breathalyzer, which officers declined.
