NBC News: Newly Reviewed Justice Department Files Link Top Trump Administration Officials to Jeffrey Epstein
WASHINGTON — At least a half-dozen top officials in the current Trump administration have connections to Jeffrey Epstein, according to a comprehensive NBC News review of over 3 million documents recently released by the Justice Department. The report indicates that while multiple high-ranking figures appear in the files, the “degree to which each individual was connected to Epstein varies significantly,” ranging from a single email to years of sustained communication.
The files, which have drawn renewed scrutiny to the late financier’s extensive network of influence, mention President Donald Trump thousands of times. The President, who has acknowledged a past social relationship with Epstein, has consistently stated that he severed ties with him in the mid-2000s and has denied any wrongdoing. Following the release of the documents, President Trump took to Truth Social to assert that the files “conclusively” prove he has been “100% exonerated.”
Among the current administration officials identified in the review is Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz. The documents reportedly contain a 2016 email from Oz to Epstein that appeared to include an invitation to a Valentine’s Day party. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also appears in the records, specifically within Epstein’s flight logs.
Other prominent figures linked to the administration who appear in the documents include Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg, whose name surfaces numerous times in connection with his business dealings, as well as Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Secretary of the Navy John Phelan. The review also noted the appearance of Federal Reserve nominee Kevin Warsh and former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. Elon Musk, described in reports as the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), was also named in the review of the files.
The release of these documents sparked a contentious exchange on Capitol Hill this week. During a heated oversight hearing, Representative Becca Balint (D-Vt.) pressed Attorney General Pam Bondi on whether the Justice Department had questioned any current administration officials regarding their ties to Epstein. Bondi declined to answer directly, stating, “I’m stunned that you want to continue talking about Epstein,” and characterized the line of questioning as a distraction.
The NBC News report emphasizes that none of the current administration officials named in the files have been accused of criminal wrongdoing by law enforcement in connection with these documents. The review also highlighted that the files are bipartisan in nature, containing references to officials from previous Democratic administrations, including former President Bill Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, and former Obama White House counsel Kathy Ruemmler. Ruemmler recently announced her departure from a top legal position at Goldman Sachs following scrutiny over her past communications with Epstein.
As the Department of Justice continues to process and release millions of documents related to the Epstein investigation, the scope of his interactions with the American political elite remains a subject of intense public interest. The variance in these connections—from brief social pleasantries to extensive professional networks—underscores the breadth of access Epstein cultivated across party lines before his arrest and subsequent death in federal custody.
