Deadly Campus Shooting at South Carolina State University Claims Two Lives, Injures Another hugine

Two people were killed and a third was injured late Thursday in a shooting at a student housing facility on the campus of South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, authorities confirmed, prompting an extended lockdown and sparking an active criminal investigation.

Shooting Erupts at Student Residential Complex

The incident took place just after reports of gunfire at the Hugine Suites student residential complex around 9:15 p.m. local time on Thursday, leading university officials to immediately place the campus under lockdown. Officers from several law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, securing the area late into the night as investigators began piecing together what happened.

Casualties, Investigation and Campus Response

University officials have not yet released the identities of the two people killed or the condition of the wounded individual. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is leading the investigation, assisted by local law enforcement. As a result of the shooting, all classes scheduled for Friday were canceled, and counseling services have been made available to students.

Lockdown Lifted After Hours, Questions Remain

The lockdown that began Thursday evening was lifted early Friday morning, but the community continues to seek answers about the circumstances and possible motives behind the violence. No suspect information has been released at this time, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
