FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department Attempting to Recover ‘Lost’ Footage in Nancy Guthrie Search
Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie have announced a renewed forensic effort to retrieve potential digital evidence that was previously thought to be unavailable. Over the last eight days, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with private sector partners to recover images or video footage from Guthrie’s home in the Catalina Foothills, north of Tucson, Arizona.
The 84-year-old mother of NBC “Today” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, 2026. Early in the investigation, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed that while motion was detected by Guthrie’s home security system around the time of her disappearance, no video was initially available. Technical logs indicated that a doorbell camera was disconnected at 1:47 a.m. and a separate camera detected motion at 2:12 a.m., but the system reportedly failed to record or retain the files.
This new push for data recovery aims to bridge that digital gap. Investigators are leveraging advanced forensic techniques to restore any fragmented or deleted data from the home’s devices. The recovery of such footage could be pivotal, potentially offering the first visual evidence of a suspect or vehicle. To date, law enforcement has not named a person of interest, despite the FBI offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery.
The investigation began after Guthrie failed to appear for a scheduled church livestream on the morning of February 1. A subsequent welfare check by her family revealed her home was empty, with signs of a struggle. Forensic testing later confirmed that blood found on the front porch belonged to Guthrie. Her pacemaker, which requires daily monitoring, was also disconnected from its corresponding phone app at 2:28 a.m. the morning she vanished.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have issued multiple public pleas for their mother’s safe return, expressing a willingness to pay a ransom. While authorities have received various communications claiming to be from abductors, no verifiable proof of life has been provided. The investigation remains active as federal and local agents continue their search and analysis of the recovered digital evidence.
