Police Investigate Stabbing Incident at Silver Spring Transit Center; Multiple Juveniles Injured
SILVER SPRING, Md. – Authorities in Montgomery County are investigating a violent incident that occurred Monday evening at the Silver Spring Transit Center, leaving multiple people injured. The stabbing took place during the evening rush hour, drawing a significant police and emergency response to the busy transportation hub.
According to the Montgomery County Police Department, officers responded to the 8400 block of Colesville Road around 6:00 p.m. following reports of an assault. Upon arrival, law enforcement and emergency medical personnel located several victims at the scene.
Pete Piringer, the chief spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, confirmed that emergency teams evaluated four individuals in connection with the incident. Three of the victims, identified as juveniles, were transported to local hospitals for treatment of stab wounds and other injuries. The fourth individual was evaluated at the scene but refused medical transport. Officials have not yet released specific details regarding the ages of the victims or the severity of their injuries, though initial reports indicate they were receiving necessary medical care.
While the incident occurred in the immediate vicinity of the Silver Spring Metro station, Metro Transit Police clarified that the altercation took place off Metro property. Consequently, Metro train and bus services were not disrupted, and the transit system continued to operate on its regular schedule throughout the evening. Metro Transit Police are currently assisting Montgomery County Police, who have assumed the lead role in the ongoing investigation.
As of Monday night, investigators had not released a description of a suspect or announced any arrests. A heavy police presence remained at the transit center for several hours as detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and evidence. The area surrounding Colesville Road is a high-traffic zone, serving as a major transfer point for Metro trains, Ride On buses, and MARC commuter rail services.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the altercation or who possesses relevant information to contact the Montgomery County Police Department. The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the violence.
