Bodycam Shows Dramatic Moment Seattle Police Shoot Armed Man Walking Down Street best views of seattle

Newly released body-camera footage captures the chaotic seconds during a midday police shooting in Seattle, where officers shot and killed a man who reportedly waved a gun at pedestrians and motorists. The dramatic encounter, triggered by frantic 911 calls, ended when officers opened fire after repeated commands to drop the weapon were ignored.

Armed Suspect Spotted on Street, Public in Alarm

Around 1:30 p.m., Seattle emergency services received several calls reporting a man walking along Othello Street from Rainier Avenue, brandishing a gun and pointing it at people in passing vehicles. Witnesses described a frightening scene as drivers sped away and some called police. Responding officers arrived within minutes — their arrival and the lead-up to the shooting are captured in bodycam footage.

Officers Order Drop — Suspect Advances With Gun

Body-worn cameras show two officers confronting the individual, repeatedly demanding: “Drop it! Drop the gun!” The man — instead of obeying — continued to advance while holding the firearm. After initial shots, the suspect fell but then briefly sat up and raised the gun again. Officers opened fire again. Multiple shots were heard. The man fell for the final time, and though medics on scene tried to provide aid, he was declared dead at the site.

Investigation Launched, Police Statement on Use of Force

Following protocol, the King County Sheriff’s Office has taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting to assess whether the use of lethal force was justified. Meanwhile, Seattle Police Department leadership released a statement acknowledging the split-second decision officers must sometimes make when confronted with an armed individual moving toward them or innocent bystanders — noting that while de-escalation is preferred, there are moments when immediate action may be unavoidable.
