US Seeks Extradition of Apollo Quiboloy
The United States has officially asked the Philippine government to extradite Filipino religious leader Apollo Carreon Quiboloy, who is facing multiple criminal charges in the U.S., including child sex trafficking, fraud, money laundering, and immigration-related offenses.
Philippine officials confirmed that the extradition request has been received and forwarded to the country’s Department of Justice for legal review. The request is expected to move through the Philippine judicial process before any final decision is made.
Extradition Process Depends on Philippine Courts
Quiboloy is currently in detention in the Philippines, where he is already facing separate criminal cases involving allegations of human trafficking and child abuse. Under the extradition agreement between the United States and the Philippines, local legal proceedings generally take priority before a suspect can be transferred abroad.
However, Philippine authorities may seek court approval for a temporary surrender if they determine it is legally appropriate under the bilateral extradition treaty. Two Philippine courts are expected to play a key role in deciding whether the extradition request can proceed.
Long-Running U.S. Criminal Case
U.S. federal prosecutors first indicted Quiboloy in 2021, accusing him and several associates of operating a criminal network involving child sex trafficking, coercion, fraud, marriage fraud, visa fraud, cash smuggling, and money laundering. Investigators allege that women and underage girls were manipulated through threats and religious influence.
Following the indictment, Quiboloy was placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted list. He has consistently denied all allegations, claiming the accusations were fabricated by critics and former members of his religious organization.
Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church, was previously known as a close spiritual adviser to former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and once held significant political influence in the country.
