Two Men Accused of Running Unlicensed Exotic Animal Photoshoots

Two men from Maryland are facing a total of 23 misdemeanor and felony charges after authorities alleged they organized commercial photoshoots featuring exotic animals without the required permits or federal licenses.

The accused, identified as photographer Vernon Crowfey III and animal handler Jayden Evans, allegedly used animals including a lemur, spider monkey, and snakes during staged photoshoots involving models in a parking garage beneath Towson Town Center. Investigators also claim the production included fire effects, leading to additional arson-related allegations.

Undercover Investigation Led to Arrests

According to investigators, the case unfolded after authorities discovered social media promotions advertising exotic animal photography sessions. An undercover officer reportedly arranged a photoshoot featuring a lemur and a spider monkey, which ultimately led to a search warrant and the arrests.

Officials said neither individual possessed the required USDA Class C exhibitor or dealer license, which is mandatory for certain commercial activities involving exotic animals under the Animal Welfare Act. Authorities also alleged the animals had been transported from North Carolina without proper permits.

Exotic Animals Rescued During Search

During a search of Evans’ residence, investigators found several exotic animals, including reptiles, rabbits, a tarantula, and other species. Authorities stated that the lemur and spider monkey were being kept in unsuitable living conditions, prompting their transfer to the Maryland Zoo for proper care.

The defendants now face charges that include animal cruelty, illegal possession of prohibited primates, malicious burning, and other related offenses. One of the accused has publicly stated that mall security had approved the use of the parking garage for the photoshoot, although authorities continue to pursue the criminal case.
