US Authorities Remove Cruise Ship Workers Amid Federal Investigation
U.S. immigration officials have revoked the visas of more than two dozen cruise ship employees following an investigation tied to alleged child sexual abuse images involving crew members on several cruise ships.
According to federal officials, authorities boarded eight cruise ships in late April as part of the operation. Investigators identified 27 individuals allegedly connected to the possession, viewing, transportation, or distribution of illegal child exploitation material.
Most of the workers involved were reportedly from the Philippines. Officials confirmed the individuals had their visas canceled and were sent back to their home countries after the investigation.
Disney Cruise Line Confirms Cooperation With Authorities
Some of the workers were connected to Disney Cruise Line, although the company stated that the majority were employed elsewhere. Disney officials said the company fully cooperated with law enforcement agencies during the investigation.
The cruise company also stated that employees linked to the case are no longer working for the organization. Authorities have not publicly identified all of the cruise ships involved or disclosed the exact locations where the inspections took place.
Reports indicate that at least some of the ships had recently docked in San Diego before the enforcement action occurred.
Rights Groups Raise Questions Over Investigation Process
Immigrant rights and worker advocacy organizations have raised concerns over the lack of public details surrounding the operation. Some groups questioned how the workers were investigated and whether proper legal procedures were followed.
Officials from U.S. Customs and Border Protection have stated that criminal charges are not always necessary for visa cancellations in immigration-related cases.
Authorities also did not confirm whether any cruise passengers were potential victims connected to the investigation. Additional details about the case have not yet been released publicly.
