California Boy Dies After Jumping Into Lake During Alleged Dog Attack
A tragic incident in California has led to the arrest of a 68-year-old man after a 12-year-old boy drowned while reportedly trying to escape an attack by several dogs at a public park.
The heartbreaking event happened on June 18 at Central Park in California City. Authorities said the boy entered the lake while fleeing from three dogs. Emergency responders pulled him from the water and performed CPR before he was taken to the hospital, where he later died. A young girl who was with him suffered dog bite injuries but is expected to recover.
Dog Owner Arrested on Manslaughter and Animal Negligence Charges
Following an investigation, police identified the dogs’ owner as Kenneth Dobbins, 68. Investigators gathered witness statements and other evidence linking the animals to the incident.
After authorities obtained an arrest warrant, Dobbins was located in Lancaster on June 25 after receiving a public tip. He was taken into custody and booked on charges including involuntary manslaughter and negligent ownership of dangerous animals.
Police also confirmed that one of the dogs involved has been recovered, while efforts continue to locate the remaining animals connected to the case.
Community Mourns Young Victim
The victim has been identified as 12-year-old Fernando Torres Moreno. Family members and community residents have been mourning the loss, remembering him as a cheerful and caring child.
Local officials described the incident as a devastating tragedy and urged pet owners to take responsibility for controlling dangerous animals to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
