Cypriot officials have confirmed that the body found on a southern beach is that of 53-year-old Vladislav Baumgertner, a Russian businessman and former chief executive of global potash producer Uralkali. Baumgertner had been reported missing earlier this month, triggering a search and an investigation that continues as authorities work to determine how he died.

Body Identified After Weeks of Uncertainty

Local authorities say DNA analysis has established that the remains recovered on January 15 from the Avdimou coastal area belong to Baumgertner, who vanished from his home in Limassol on January 7. The discovery site lies within territory administered by the British Sovereign Base Areas on the island, where specialized police units are probing the circumstances surrounding his death.

Investigation Underway by British Base Police

Officials from the Criminal Investigation Department of the British bases have confirmed the identity to Baumgertner’s family and are continuing their work to establish the cause of death. No official conclusion has been released, and authorities have not publicly detailed any suspected factors leading to his passing.

Businessman’s Background and Cyprus Residency

Baumgertner, who once led Uralkali — one of the world’s largest potash companies — had lived in Cyprus for several years prior to his disappearance. His time in the fertilizer industry included a high-profile career overseas, and Cyprus had become his residence following his retirement from corporate leadership.
