Houston Family Speaks Out After Kristen Galvan Case Raises Questions
The family of Kristen Galvan, a Houston-area teenager who was trafficked and later murdered, is demanding accountability from law enforcement, arguing that missed opportunities before and after her disappearance contributed to a heartbreaking outcome.
Kristen, who was 15 years old when she vanished in January 2020, had previously survived a trafficking ordeal and had reportedly cooperated with investigators by providing information that helped build criminal cases against those involved. Despite concerns for her safety, her family says stronger protective measures were never put in place.
Authorities recently confirmed that advanced DNA testing identified partial human remains discovered in Missouri City in January 2020 as belonging to Kristen, bringing an end to more than six years of uncertainty for her loved ones.
Family Alleges Missed Chances to Protect Teen
According to Kristen’s mother, the family repeatedly warned authorities that the teenager feared retaliation after assisting investigators. They believe witness protection or additional safeguards could have prevented her disappearance.
After Kristen went missing for a second time, relatives reportedly requested an Amber Alert and other investigative measures but say those efforts were not approved. Her family argues that the case was not treated with the urgency typically given to an endangered trafficking victim.
Law enforcement agencies have not publicly addressed each of the family’s specific allegations, while the homicide investigation remains active.
Six-Year Wait for Identification Sparks Questions
Kristen’s partial remains were recovered only weeks after she disappeared, but investigators were unable to identify them through conventional forensic methods because of their condition.
The breakthrough came after advanced forensic genetic genealogy and mitochondrial DNA analysis were used to establish her identity. Texas officials announced the identification in late July 2026, providing long-awaited answers to her family while leaving many questions about the handling of the investigation over the years.
Mother Continues Advocacy Against Human Trafficking
Throughout the years her daughter remained missing, Kristen’s mother became an advocate for victims of human trafficking and missing children. She has worked to raise awareness about online grooming, support affected families, and push for stronger protections for vulnerable teenagers.
The family is now planning a memorial in Kristen’s honor while continuing to seek accountability and justice. Investigators have said the homicide investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward.
