Colt Gray Admits Guilt in Georgia School Shooting Case

Colt Gray, the teenager charged in the deadly 2024 shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, has pleaded guilty to all 55 criminal charges, bringing an end to plans for a jury trial. Gray, now 16, entered a non-negotiated guilty plea, meaning there was no agreement with prosecutors regarding his sentence.

The September 2024 attack claimed the lives of two students and two teachers while injuring nine others. Because the plea was entered without a sentencing deal, the judge will determine whether Gray spends the rest of his life in prison with or without the possibility of parole.

Victims’ Families Share Emotional Testimony in Court

Following the guilty plea, family members of those killed and survivors addressed the court, describing the lasting emotional pain caused by the shooting. Several relatives spoke about the devastating impact the tragedy has had on their lives and urged the court to impose the harshest possible punishment.

Prosecutors also presented evidence that investigators say showed the attack had been planned in advance. Court records included information about Gray’s writings, online activity, and statements made before and after the shooting.

Judge to Decide Final Sentence

The guilty plea means Gray will not stand trial, but sentencing proceedings will continue as both prosecutors and defense attorneys present arguments before the court. The judge will ultimately determine whether he is sentenced to life imprisonment with the possibility of parole or life without parole.

The case has also drawn national attention because Gray’s father, Colin Gray, was separately convicted after prosecutors argued he provided the rifle used in the attack despite numerous warning signs regarding his son’s mental health and behavior.
