Australian Man Faces Murder Charges in Thailand
Thai authorities have charged an Australian man with murder after the body of a 17-year-old Thai girl was found hidden inside a suitcase near railway tracks in Pattaya. The case has shocked both Thailand and Australia as investigators continue gathering evidence.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Simon Peter Carman, was arrested at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport while allegedly attempting to leave the country. Police say he now faces multiple charges, including murder, concealment of a body, and taking a minor for sexual purposes under Thai law.
CCTV Footage Leads Police to Suspect
According to investigators, surveillance footage showed the teenager entering a condominium with the suspect before she disappeared. Later recordings allegedly captured the man leaving the building alone while carrying a large suitcase believed to be the same one in which the victim’s body was later discovered.
The victim had been reported missing by friends after they lost contact with her. Her body was eventually found inside a black suitcase abandoned near railway tracks in Pattaya.
Police said the suspect has denied intentionally killing the teenager, claiming the incident occurred during a confrontation. However, authorities have continued with the charges while forensic experts examine additional evidence, including autopsy findings.
Family Seeks Justice as Investigation Continues
The victim’s family has expressed deep grief over the loss of the 17-year-old and has called for the strongest possible legal action against the accused.
Thai investigators are continuing to collect forensic evidence and review witness statements before the case moves further through the country’s legal system. If convicted of murder, the suspect could face severe penalties under Thai law, including life imprisonment or the death penalty.
Authorities have not announced a trial date, and the investigation remains ongoing.
