Former Alaska Official Indicted on Dozens of Sex Crime Charges

A former mayor from Chevak, Alaska, has been indicted on 47 criminal charges linked to alleged sexual abuse and assault involving multiple victims over more than a decade.

Ulric Jeffery Ulroan, 48, is accused of committing offenses between 2009 and 2025 in several Alaska communities, including Chevak, Anchorage, Mountain Village, and Nome. Prosecutors say the charges include first-degree sexual assault, first- and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, indecent exposure, and providing alcohol to underage individuals.

Authorities arrested Ulroan after a grand jury returned the indictment. He is currently being held at Anvil Mountain Correctional Center, where bail has been set at $250,000.

Investigation Expanded After Initial Tip

The investigation began in January 2026 when Alaska investigators received information alleging that a teenage girl had been sexually abused years earlier. As detectives continued their work, additional women reportedly came forward with similar allegations.

Officials believe there are at least six identified victims connected to the case, though investigators have indicated that more victims may still exist. Law enforcement has encouraged anyone with relevant information to contact authorities as the investigation remains active.

Some of the allegations state that Ulroan held positions of authority over certain victims during the time of the alleged offenses.

Community Leadership Role Draws Attention

Before his arrest, Ulroan had held several prominent roles in Alaska communities. He previously served as mayor of Chevak, worked within the local school district, coached high school basketball teams, and was a certified foster parent for nearly two decades. More recently, he was employed as a pilot in Nome.

In 2019, Ulroan and his wife received statewide recognition as Parents of the Year for their contributions to family and youth development. The serious allegations against him have shocked many residents familiar with his public service record.

The criminal case is ongoing, and investigators continue gathering evidence while encouraging additional witnesses or victims to come forward. As with all criminal proceedings, the charges remain allegations until proven in court.
