Mystikal Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison Following 2022 Sexual Assault Case Ew2W

Rapper Mystikal has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars in connection with a 2022 rape case in Louisiana. The artist, whose legal name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, received the sentence after pleading guilty earlier this year to a reduced charge of third-degree rape.

The 55-year-old musician appeared in court on Tuesday, where the victim shared details of the attack and requested the maximum punishment allowed by law. The court ultimately handed down a 20-year prison sentence.

Guilty Plea Reduced Original Charge

Mystikal originally faced first-degree rape charges stemming from an incident that occurred in August 2022. However, in March 2026, he entered a guilty plea to third-degree rape as part of an agreement that lowered the original charge.

Before sentencing, his legal team attempted to withdraw the plea, arguing that he had been under emotional pressure and did not fully understand the consequences when accepting the deal. The request was unsuccessful, and the sentencing moved forward.

Several additional charges connected to the case, including robbery and false imprisonment allegations, were later dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

Details of the 2022 Incident

Authorities said the case involved a woman who knew the rapper and was at his home in Prairieville, Louisiana. Investigators alleged that an argument escalated into physical violence and sexual assault.

According to court records, the woman suffered minor injuries and later received medical treatment. Mystikal remained in custody without bond following his arrest in 2022.

Previous Legal Troubles

This is not the first time the rapper has faced criminal charges. In 2003, Mystikal served prison time after being convicted in a separate sexual battery case. He later faced additional accusations in 2017, although those charges were eventually dropped.

Known for hit songs such as “Shake Ya Ass” and “Bouncin’ Back,” Mystikal rose to fame in the late 1990s and earned multiple Grammy nominations during his career. His latest conviction marks another major chapter in the rapper’s long history of legal issues.
