A shocking shooting at a high school in southeastern Turkey has left at least 16 people injured, triggering panic among students and staff. The attacker, identified as a former student, reportedly opened fire on campus before ending his own life as security forces moved in. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, which has raised fresh concerns about school safety.

🔍 Gunman Opens Fire Inside School

The incident took place on April 14, 2026, at a vocational high school in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa province. According to officials, the attacker—an 18- to 19-year-old former student—entered the school armed with a shotgun and began firing randomly in the schoolyard before moving inside the building.

Eyewitness accounts and security footage revealed chaotic scenes, with students running for safety and some attempting to escape through windows and corridors.

The suspect later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when confronted by police.

🚑 Victims and Emergency Response

At least 16 people were wounded in the attack, including students, teachers, and school staff. Among the injured were:

  • 10 students
  • 4 teachers
  • 1 police officer
  • 1 canteen worker

Several victims were reported to be in serious condition and were transported to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment. Emergency teams quickly secured the area, evacuated the school, and provided medical assistance.

🕵️ Investigation Underway

Authorities confirmed that the attacker had no known criminal record, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Reports suggest the suspect may have previously studied at the school and could have had personal grievances, though officials have not confirmed this.

Police and government officials have begun a detailed investigation to determine the circumstances leading up to the attack. The incident is being treated as an isolated case, but it has sparked renewed debate over school security measures in the region.
