Teen Accused of Killing Mother After Family Dispute
A 14-year-old boy in Wyoming has been charged with first-degree murder after authorities say he fatally shot his mother during a heated dispute at their home. The incident reportedly began with an argument about a tablet the teenager had taken from one of his mother’s cleaning clients.
According to investigators, emergency responders were called to the home after the woman was found with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. She was first taken to a local hospital and later airlifted to a medical facility in Colorado, where she died from her injuries later that day.
Officials say the case has shocked the community due to the young age of the suspect and the tragic circumstances surrounding the incident.
Argument Over Stolen Tablet Escalated
Authorities say the confrontation started when the mother confronted the teen about a tablet he allegedly stole from a client connected to her cleaning business. During the argument, she reportedly accused him of theft and demanded the device’s password.
Investigators believe the teenager retrieved a notebook from his room that contained the password. At the same time, he allegedly accessed a handgun that had been hidden there. Police say he then shot his mother while she was in his bedroom.
Court records also indicate the teen had previously taken the firearm about a week before the shooting following another disagreement with his mother over school grades.
Investigation Revealed Conflicting Initial Story
After the incident, the teenager initially told authorities that his mother had died by suicide. However, investigators quickly became suspicious after medical professionals determined the wound did not match what would typically be seen in a self-inflicted gunshot.
During questioning, police say the boy eventually admitted to shooting his mother. Investigators also reported that he had expressed anger toward her and had previously thought about harming her during past arguments.
Prosecutors have since charged the teen with first-degree murder, and he is expected to face the case in court as the investigation continues.
