A routine traffic stop in Florida took an unexpected turn when deputies discovered a teenage girl who had been reported missing from North Carolina sitting inside the vehicle. Authorities say the driver, a 37-year-old man, was pulled over for allegedly speeding. During the stop, deputies identified the girl as a missing minor who had disappeared weeks earlier, leading to the driver’s arrest and a broader investigation.

Traffic Stop Reveals Missing Teen

According to law enforcement officials, the incident happened on March 8 in Putnam County, Florida, when a deputy stopped a car for speeding along a highway near Crescent City. During the interaction, the officer noticed a teenage passenger in the vehicle who appeared confused and initially provided inconsistent information about her identity.

Authorities later confirmed that the girl was a 16-year-old who had been reported missing from North Carolina weeks earlier. Her mother had filed a missing persons report in February and reportedly had no connection to the man driving the car.

After deputies verified her identity, they determined she had been traveling with the driver for some time before the traffic stop brought the situation to light.

Driver Gives Conflicting Explanations

Officials said the driver, identified as 37-year-old Joshua Magraff, gave deputies inconsistent explanations about his relationship with the teen. At first, he reportedly claimed she was a relative, but later changed his statement and said she was a friend.

Investigators became suspicious after the teenager also provided false names before eventually revealing her real identity. Once the truth was confirmed, deputies took the man into custody while continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s disappearance and travel across state lines.

Additional Items Found in Vehicle

During a search of the vehicle, deputies reportedly discovered several illegal items, including counterfeit currency, synthetic marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Authorities charged the driver with multiple offenses, including interference with child custody, possession of counterfeit money, possession of synthetic marijuana, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The teenager was placed under the care of child welfare authorities and is expected to be reunited with her family. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine how the teen ended up traveling with the suspect.
