Turkey Dismantles Alleged Israeli Spy Cell Linked to Supply Chain Infiltration Plot

Turkish security forces have dismantled an espionage cell allegedly operating on behalf of Israeli intelligence, with officials stating the network was preparing for supply chain infiltrations similar to the tactics used in the 2024 pager attacks in Lebanon. The operation, conducted jointly by the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and the Istanbul police, resulted in the arrest of two suspects who had been under surveillance following reports of their disappearance weeks earlier.

According to Turkish security sources cited by Middle East Eye, the cell had been active since 2012, engaging in surveillance of Palestinian nationals residing in Turkey and attempting to export drone components. However, the investigation revealed that the network’s recent activities focused on establishing a complex web of front companies designed to infiltrate international supply chains.

Authorities identified one of the suspects as a Turkish national with the initials M.B.D. Security officials report that in January 2026, M.B.D. met with Israeli handlers abroad to finalize plans for a network of shell companies based outside of Turkey. The alleged scheme involved a three-tiered structure operating across Asia: one company to procure and repackage goods, a second to provide temporary storage, and a third to export the items to end-users designated by Israeli intelligence.

This logistical blueprint closely mirrors the method attributed to Israel during the September 2024 attacks in Lebanon and Syria, where thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies exploded simultaneously. Those devices had been rigged with explosives during the manufacturing or distribution process before reaching Hezbollah members. Turkish officials emphasized that the newly dismantled cell was laying the groundwork for similar operations, where “unnamed products” sourced from specific countries would be shipped to targets determined by handlers.

During the final meetings reported by intelligence sources, the suspects discussed the practicalities of legitimized cover, including opening bank accounts, designing corporate websites, and establishing social media presence for the front companies. The suspects were apprehended last month after their families reported them missing, unaware they had been detained as part of the counter-intelligence operation.

This development marks the latest in a series of Turkish operations targeting alleged Mossad activities within the country. Relations between Turkey and Israel have remained strained, particularly following the escalation of regional conflicts in recent years. Turkish authorities have previously warned against foreign intelligence agencies conducting operations on Turkish soil, frequently announcing the detention of individuals accused of gathering information on foreign nationals and Palestinian expatriates.
