A Family’s Tragedy at the Deli
In a heartbreaking incident on December 4, 2025, a 30-year-old man allegedly fatally stabbed his parents inside the family-owned deli they operated in Bethpage, Long Island. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after police discovered him in the parking lot, covered in blood. Both victims — his mother and father — succumbed to their injuries. The tragedy has left a close-knit community reeling.
What Happened — Timeline of Events
According to investigators, the suspect arrived at the deli around 9 a.m. and entered a back room, where he allegedly stabbed his mother in the throat. He then turned on his father. Officers found him in the parking lot with visible blood on his hands and clothing and arrested him immediately.
Before the fatal attack, the suspect reportedly had a separate incident at a nearby coffee shop, prompting a 911 call.
According to court records, he had been estranged from his family. A restraining order had recently been issued against him after a prior domestic dispute, and at the time of arrest he was wearing an ankle monitor tied to a previous legal matter.
Aftermath: Arrest and Community Response
Authorities charged the man with first-degree murder. He remains hospitalized and is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court again on December 9.
In the wake of the tragedy, members of the local community have rallied around the victims’ surviving children — setting up a fund to assist with funeral costs and support. The deli, a longtime neighborhood staple, is remembered fondly by patrons for the warmth and kindness of the couple.
