When officers ordered Ramos to disarm, he allegedly advanced toward a detective with the knife still in hand. Police responded with gunfire and struck him multiple times.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery and is expected to survive. Officials say he now faces charges of assaulting a peace officer with a deadly weapon.
