Johannesburg Shooting Leaves 12 Dead and Several Wounded
A deadly shooting in Johannesburg, South Africa, has left 12 people dead and nine others injured after multiple gunmen attacked residents of an informal settlement in Cleveland, east of the city.
According to authorities, the attack took place late Tuesday night when a group of armed suspects entered the area and fired at people at several locations. Emergency teams rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals.
Police have confirmed that a large-scale search operation is underway to track down those responsible.
Suspects Arrived in a White Minibus
Investigators said more than ten attackers are believed to have been involved in the assault. The suspects reportedly arrived in a white Toyota Quantum vehicle and entered the settlement through different access points before opening fire.
After carrying out the attack, the gunmen escaped in the same vehicle. No arrests had been announced as of Wednesday, and authorities continue to gather evidence.
Police Launch Major Manhunt
Law enforcement officials have deployed teams to investigate the massacre and identify the motive behind the shooting. Authorities have not yet determined what triggered the attack.
The incident is the latest example of the violent crime challenges facing South Africa, where mass shootings and gang-related violence remain a serious concern in several communities.
