A man who previously fled custody after being transported to a hospital has been taken back into custody after authorities tracked him down at a hotel in southeast Houston. The arrest was carried out through a joint operation involving local and federal law enforcement agencies, bringing an end to a brief but serious manhunt.
Coordinated Operation Leads to Arrest
On December 24, 2025, deputies from the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office launched a targeted operation to locate James Willis III. Specialized units, including the Special Operations Unit and Criminal Investigations Division, worked alongside the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force to identify his whereabouts.
Authorities located Willis at the Courtyard Marriott, situated in the 9100 block of the Gulf Freeway. Officers moved in swiftly to prevent another escape and safely took him into custody without incident.
Background: Escape After Hospital Transfer
Willis had previously escaped while under supervision during a hospital visit, prompting concerns about public safety and triggering an intensive search. Law enforcement agencies treated the case as a high priority due to the circumstances surrounding his escape and his fugitive status.
Investigation Ongoing
Officials confirmed that Willis is now securely detained and will face additional legal consequences related to his escape. Investigators continue to review the events surrounding his earlier flight from custody as part of the ongoing case.
